Troubled but Joyful – part I

Faith will enable you see the brighter side of the dark cloud, faith will enable you stand firm even when Babylon and his war chariots are rising against you. Faith will help you believe in the awesome woks of the Lord, stand still and know he is God. Faith will help you depend on God rather than on your might not even on the basic source of your income and earnings. It is by faith that even when salaries delay, that even when you encounter losses, even when natural disasters sweep away your farm, you can yet rejoice because you know only God cares for you

Witnesses for Christ: everywhere and every time.

In as much as social gospel is a means of witness and is witness, we shouldn’t as a church only stop at it. We must make deliberate efforts to point men and women to Christ, to say Christ is Lord, to say Christ died for the sin of the world, to say in Christ is life. Yes, that is the primary commission by Christ when he told his disciples they will be his witnesses and they did it well. We ought to follow their example. We should invest our time, resources and all to witness as the disciples did.

Earnest prayer yields miraculous result

When we pray, God honours our prayer, he says “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know” (Jer. 33:3). When we search for his mind in prayer, he will show us the unsearchable things that we wouldn’t have access to without prayer. “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us” (1 John 5:14).

Christ the Hope of the Nations

The soul of man loosely stands unanchored if it doesn’t hope in the object of hope—Christ Jesus. In him everything revolves, in whom are the promises of God, justice and mercy spring from him and in no other. He is the author and finisher of our faith, the Alpha and Omega in whom all things begin and end. He alone is immortal and hope in him is eternal, it never fades because Jesus the Hope of the Nations “is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8).

Submission to God is defeating the Devil

Do you ever found yourself in a quarrelsome situation even to the extent to wanting to fight? Fights and quarrels, envy and strife, jealousy and hatred are some of the ways in which the Devil takes control of us to destroy us (Jas. 4:1-3). Do you have a deeper love for the world and the things therein other than desiring God? Take heed, you are headed to a wrong direction. “Don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God?” (Jas. 4:4-5). Do you find yourself in such similar situation as above and other evil like situation? This note must be for you, to ask you to first submit to God and then resist the Devil otherwise the Devil may be wanting to take control of you.

Unless I wash you, you have no part with me

We are all invited to Christ’s washing, we are invited to be cleansed by Him. His blood out poured for us, that blood which streamed from his pierced side is for our washing. He offers it freely for us. In the symbolic washing, Peter not knowing what it meant, attempted to object it, not until he was told he will have no part with Christ unless he is washed, that he accepted to be washed. Many have remained in church but objected his cleansing, many have been loyal to the ‘church’ than to Christ and have remained uncleansed. Today I have the privilege to invite you to his cleansing blood, to have yourself washed that you may have a part with Him in His kingdom both now and then.

In the World but Not of the World

“If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world.” John 15:19 I have spent over three decades of my not yet three and a half decades’ life in my country. I only […]

Be a Victor not a Victim

The 19th century ‘militant’ marching hymn by Sabine Baring Gould “Onward Christian Soldiers” speaks well about the militant life of a believer and the Church of God. Gould’s attempt to write a marching song for his village school didn’t only fulfil its purpose then but rightly portrays a believer to be one in a battle. […]

More than Conquerors in Christ

By Tabi Julius Izza Romans 8:31-39 “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loves us.” Romans 8:37 A Christian is as human as any other persons who belong to other religions or even atheists with only an exception that a Christian enjoys a divine power through the love of…

Knowing the Boundaries, keeping within the limits

Our Christian calling is one that is to be lived to some degree of standards. It is not a life bound to laws, do’s and don’ts but there is an ethical and moral standard to which we are called. Throughout the scripture, especially the apostles’ teachings in their epistles is to be found the kind of Christian living to which we are called. Related to Daniel’s story is Paul’s address to the Corinthian church. He writes, “Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence to God.” (2 Corinthians 7:1).

How long will you waver between two opinions?

How long shall we waver from two opinions? Especially us in the very household of God, do we let the agonistics, those who set themselves against the gospel put us in a wavering state? Shall we be able to overcome deceptive voices that pushes us to syncretism, unbelief, idolatry, materialism, and all sorts of things that puts us at a wavering state? Shall we worship God in truth and spirit for his grace? Shall we deny anything that is less than the gospel that we have for so long thought it is the full gospel? Shall we like Moody says believe the report of Christ, documented in the Gospels without doubt? Shall we allow an absolute other than relativism such that we are defined by the definer as Ravi puts forth? How long shall we waver in two opinions?

God Almighty the Father of fathers

There are so many blessings that come with being a daddy: watching our children grow; teaching them (and having them soak up those lessons like little sponges); seeing their personalities begin to take shape; and the beautiful fleeting moments throughout the day that make you smile and thank God for your family.

The LORD is My Shepherd – II

Every day we walk through the valley of the shadow of death – thus we walk through dangers. Some of these dangers may be manifested to us and others even try so much to get hold of us but we often walk through thousands that we never notice. At such times, the Lord is with us and hence I can say, “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
