How then can a mortal be righteous before God? (Job 24:4)

Bildad, one of Job’s four friends who supposedly came to comfort Job did ask a very important question. His question does not only deserve an answer but also a positive response to the answer. His question is; “How then can a mortal be righteous before God? How can man born of a woman be pure?” (Job 25:4). This is a religious question that continues to be asked again and again to date. Some seek righteousness through good works (self righteousness), yet it is impossible to attain righteousness by good works because “all our righteous acts are like filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:6). Some think securing a church membership and or undertaking some sacramental rituals is enough to be made right with God, is it? Absolutely not! Mankind is inherently sinful, separated from God and falls short of God’s glory. It is only through God’s Gracious act of Love through Christ Jesus that we can be made right before God. Paul, while writing to the Romans puts it very clear that mankind can only be righteous before God through faith. He writes; “But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe… for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely through the redemption that came by Christ” (Romans 3:21-24). Similarly, in his other writing, apostle Paul says; “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God” (Ephesians 2:8). God has provided the means of being made right with him, ours is to accept this means which is believing in Christ Jesus. You either reject Jesus and remain condemned before God or believe and become righteous before God. The saying that all roads lead to Rome does not apply to being made right with God, it is only through faith in Jesus Christ that mankind can become righteous before God. Believe in Christ Jesus today and you will be saved, you will be made right with God. And if you have believed in Christ Jesus, continue to walk in the grace of God until he calls you home. Hallelujah. Rev. J
