Unshakable and assured in Christ
“I’ve told you all this so that trusting me, you will be unshakable and assured, deeply at peace. In this godless world you will continue to experience difficulties. But take heart! I’ve conquered the world” (John 16:33, MSG)
Nowhere else have I ever got a promise greater than the several promises in the Bible. One such a promise comes to us from one made by Jesus Christ in John 16:33. The Message Bible puts it in plain language: “I’ve told you all this so that trusting me, you will be unshakable and assured, deeply at peace. In this godless world you will continue to experience difficulties. But take heart! I’ve conquered the world” (John 16:33, MSG).
Jesus knew the perilous tribulations that lie ahead of his disciples, he knew that they will face persecutions and even some will be executed. He knew that without him, the disciples would not even stand the troubles ahead of them for even a day. So, he gives them an assurance, he promises that his eternal presence will be with them. Above all, he assures them that he has “conquered the world.”
Because he has conquered the world, we can assuredly trust him over all troubles that might befall us. Tribulations will come, the tribulations will sometimes consume our mortal bodies as it did many of the apostles (majority were killed), but “in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us” (Romans 8:37).
Trusting the one who has overcome the world gives us the courage to remain unshakable despite the tribulations we encounter. Because Jesus has conquered the world, we too are overcomers, we shall overcome. In Christ, we have the strength to face every day, even uncertain days that we know not about. The security we get in Christ helps us to unshakably stand in every situation whatsoever.
Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, may your holy presence in me assure me of the security I have in you to stand firm and unshakable all times. Amen!
